In 2019 I started “lightpainting” at night. I liked how the photographer at Lost America did many of his photos and wanted to do something similar. I don’t have access to any interesting locations like auto junk yards, or plane scrap yards, so I improvised. I started using Google Maps to look for objects in the farm fields of Northern Illinois.

Google maps does indicate if there is a structure by mapping a small, grey box. So I simple did a grid, map search of places that I was familiar with far West of Chicago. Then used Google Street View to see if the grey box was an interesting object to photograph. Going out to these places at night is a little difficult. The day before is spent charging up all my batteries for all the various flash lights, external flashes, etc. Lot of preparation is involved before going out to a location in the dark in the country.
